The Dean's Corner
Welcome back faculty and staff! We hope that you have had a restful and productive summer. The STEM Center for Teaching and Learning (STEM CTL) is gearing up to meet your professional development needs for the 2013-2014 academic year. We are almost fully staffed, with the acquisition of one more technology support staff with an anticipated start for October, 2013. Lavonne Whitlock serves as administrative support for the STEM CTL. Our current technology staff includes Elissa Tobin, Technology Integration Specialist who joined us last October, 2012 and Helen West, Manager, Instructional Design who came on board in April 2013. We also welcome the addition of Prof. Joseph Craan, faculty liaison, as the new Activity Director. Construction for the STEM CTL was completed in January, 2013 and we began official use in February with workshops and training facilitated by faculty, staff and outside contractors. After our staffing is completed, we hope to plan a “grand opening” of which you will be apprised. We will continue to provide workshops and training, and promote discipline-specific approved conference travel. This year we will also be featuring Brown Bag discussions on Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) hosted by Dr. Khalilah Watson, and Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) hosted by Dr. Vera Fullard. The WAC Brown Bag Seminar will be held on September 5, 2013 and the CATs Brown Bag Seminar will begin Thursday, September 26, 2013 (see further details of each below). Additionally we will resume our supported programs, which include Learning Communities, Supplemental Instruction (SI), After School Academy and STEM Club. Stay on the lookout for our updates and newsletters. Don’t forget to visit our website for more detailed information.
